SYNOPSIS:
When sibling rivalry leads to a tragic car accident, twin brothers J.D. and Virgil Johnson part ways as teenagers, creating a rift that continues to haunt Virgil throughout his life. Decades pass with the brothers estranged, until Virgil, spurred by the death of one of his business partners, decides to sell his share of their oil company and pursue the life he has always wanted. A stop at a seedy bar in West Texas, however, turns into more than just a one-night stand when Virgil is drugged and robbed by his date. He wakes up to discover that more than just his pride has been taken from him. Now naked and penniless, with only a pair of dusty cowboy boots to his name, Virgil must choose whether to reconcile with his brother in Fort Worth or return to his former partner in Odessa and admit his misfortune. Taking a leap of faith, Virgil sticks out his thumb instead, letting fate take its course. Upon arriving at the doorstep of his childhood home, Virgil is greeted by Delores Ransford, the neighborhood busybody, who delivers shocking news: his brother, now an Air Force Colonel, is dying of cancer. When Virgil reaches Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, he learns from childhood friend Tommy Wilkinson that he is too late—J.D. is gone. The inability to reconcile with his brother plunges Virgil into a downward spiral, resulting in a series of poor decisions that ultimately land him in jail. When Tommy comes to the rescue and bails him out, Virgil is given an ultimatum: change his ways or face serious consequences. With no other options, he accepts a job at Tommy's diner, Biff's, where he meets and falls for a young waitress named Sophie and her little girl, Rose. With the family he has always wanted now within reach, Virgil must decide if he can learn to forgive not only his brother but himself, to find happiness.
